Halloween Website Rankings and Earnings

I wanted to make a quick video today to show you how my Halloween websites ranking in 2009 and also when I made my money during Halloween. As many of you will know, last year I set up a total of 27 Halloween websites which made me around $5000 in September and October.
It wasn’t all smooth sailing though as I did jump around in the Google rankings quite a bit to begin with but by staying focused and constantly adding value to my websites (through adding fresh content) I was able to get good rankings and make some money.
In October there really isn’t a lot more you can do to your Halloween sites and its time to start thinking of what to do after Halloween. I am currently investigating and experimenting with a few post Halloween internet marketing strategies which I’ll be sharing with those of you on my internet marketing email list soon. What where your CTR rates?
for example how many clicks did it take to make a sale? 100 clicks??
What was the adsense revenue verus costumes commissions ratio.?

Hi Brad, CTR varies a lot from stie to site and also the time of year, around September/October you might get CTR of 1:50 or lower…I can’t remember the exact stat for that from the top of my head but will take a look at my stats and let you know – maybe I’ll do a video about CTR’s, what to expect etc. I didn’t do adsesne last year but i’d expect it to be about 15-20% of your total income at Halloween (if you earn $1000, adsense might make up 150-200 of it). I didn’t hear about you until I looked into Brian’s course. Unfortunately I couldn’t swing the cost of it this year so I’ve been trying to reverse engineer the methods.
Your videos have helped quite a bit and you’re one of the few out there now that I haven’t unsubscribed from.
I appreciate all you’ve shown us so far and hope you keep doing what you’re doing.

Wow, that was very useful Aidan. thanks, will do something similar.
As far as checking those rankings, do you do this manually (ie. search Google, find your site, record ranking position), or do you use SEO Book Rank Checker. The reason I ask, is when I use Rank Checker there are always discrepancies when compared with a manual check.
Also, have you done any analysis like in your video for your rankings/earnings post Oct-09? That would be really valuable and put into perspective the bigger picture.

Hey Kieran, I get my rankings through using Market Samurai, I then export the results to Excel so it takes only a couple of minutes. I also check the rankings every 10-15 days at the moment – no more than that because they bounce around a lot in the lead up to Halloween. Great idea for a new video, will think about it!

For someone new to IM like me, it is great to see concrete figures like these to further crystallise Brian’s coaching. Furthermore, by charting the rankings of your websites against time, it helps to put much of the air of uncertainty in Google into context. Thanks for sharing.
I am grappling with Wordpress and aiming to set up my first Halloween site in the next week. I must say, it was starting to feel like I was way behind the rest but your comments about setting up your site in early Aug last year has given me renewed hope.

I assume the Brian you’re referring to is Brian Johnson. I didn’t do much with Halloween last year because I got in too late, but I remember him referring to you in some of his webinars and posts on his sites. Did you follow the Commission Ritual methods mostly to achieve your results, i.e., the linking ritual, etc. or did you incorporate other methods into your sites?

Yes, referring to Brian Johnson. I definitely use a lot of the methods Brian teaches in Commission Ritual, its a great course. I also incorporate other methods and services as well.
When it comes down to it, its all about the backlinks, so the more quality backlinks you can get the better, any services you can use to get these are helpful

Great way of going about being organized Aidan. I think this is a fantastic idea.. I have been looking more in depth in the halloweeen season and been wondering if I too should be throwing some sites up in Google to take advantage of the oppurtunity. I am pretty sure I have decided to start a couple this week. I will do something similar to your spreadsheet and hope it works out.
