How To Find A Good Domain Name

How to Find a Good Domain NameMany people come to me and ask me how to find a good domain name. It really isn’t that difficult and many people simply put too much thought into what really is a simple process.

Right now it’s the lead up to Halloween so I’m going to give you an example using the Halloween niche.

First off, there are a few key criteria which I stick to. For starters, I’ll only buy a domain name it if is a .com, .net, or .org. I won’t even look at any others and neither should you.

For the purpose of this example I’m going to show you how to do keyword research using the Google Adwords keyword tool because it’s free. If you prefer to use Market Samurai or Micro Niche Finder – that’s fine.

Using the Google keyword tool, I’m only interested in keywords that have a global search count of 3000 or more per month. Anything less than this we can discard immediately.

The other rule that I live buy when buying domain names for Halloween style websites is that the keyword must make sense when spoken out loud. So for example “kids ghost costume” would be a good keyword but “ghost costume kids” is not a good keyword.

The rest of the process is simple, find a list of keywords with a traffic of more than 3000 searches per month and which make sense when said aloud…run these through the GoDaddy bulk keyword registration tool and in a matter of seconds you’ll have your results. Most likely you’ll be able to see that it’s not that difficult to find a good domain name.

Check out the video below for a more detailed explanation.

  1. Great post Aidan, thanks a lot for putting the time in to create it. I never knew that GoDaddy had a bulk register tool – this makes it so much easier and faster for me to see if domains are available!

  2. Thanks for the video Aidan. I’ve had a rough time finding keyword rich domain names and this might do the trick.

One question I have is what do you suggest when the relative keywords are all gone? Do you use a generic term and just build the site based on your target keywords?

    Thanks, Mike

  10. Finding a good domain name can be tricky. I register my domain names on NameCheap.com, however they don’t really offer any tools that help me discover available domain names that match what I’m looking for. In the past, I would use GoDaddy to search for names, and NameCheap to order them. GoDaddy offers a few tools that NameCheap doesn’t.

  11. Thanks a ton for this video! I always struggle with domain names. This video is so easy to follow and listen to! Thanks Aiden!!

  12. Great Video Aidan. Keep making this kind of video. There are a lot of newbies like me who are looking for Internet Marketing methods. Your videos are very helpful. Thanks for sharing.

  13. Thanks for the information. I was just looking for some Halloween costume ideas and came across your domain name video here, too, conveniently located all in one place. Bonus!

  14. Awesome blog. I respect that the author of this website wants decent comments on his or her blog. So, I thought I would offer some domain advice for the readers. When selecting your domain name you must be crafty with the name. If you’re targeting a niche opportunity, then select a domain name that is identical to your targeted keyword. If you’re performing your own branding, then pick something easily remembered.

  15. Very nice article and video. It is really helpful for newbies and as well as for professionals. A good domain name can have a impact in the eye of search engines and users.
