that's perfectly right, I've used this technique before and it works well.. as long as you will contribute and be active on the forums and make an insight comments.

for additional advice, relevant forums can make more search engine rankings to your site .

This is a great idea. Posting and linking to your website in a Forum can also help beyond just search engine. If your post is actually insightful or useful you might get some of the forum posters to visit your site as well. It's a double-win!

I have used forums before to see what kind of topic I want to write about. Oftentimes, if there is a lot of feedback on a particular discussion somewhere, I will contribute my own opinion in the form of an article. Then I will post a summary to the forum in the discussion with a link to my article.

I've never had much luck with forum posts, but I guess I've just never created ENOUGH posts to see a difference.

The good thing about forum posts though, is overtime, I'm sure certain posts would gain pagerank.

This might be unethical, but I suppose you could also go searching for old forum topics that are already high in PR and revive them ... of course, people would probably bash you for it.

Yes, forums definitely do work. The best thing about them is that there are so many that you'll never run out of ones to participate in.

There are a couple of other advantages: Firstly, you'll learn quite a bit about your chosen subject as you go.

Secondly, you'll also be developing content. If you have a look at what you've written after a week or two at a couple of forums, there's bound to be the makings of some good articles. You just have to rewrite them a bit before using them (on your site or in an article directory) so that Google doesn't think they're copies.
